Hii King Chiong : Plan Carefully, Change With Innovation
25.01.2015--The Honorary Life Advisor of Miri United Hawkers Association Dato Hii King Chiong said that the living standards of hawkers has risen in line with booming local development. As civilised and smart hawkers, careful planning, change and innovation are essential.
Hii was at the 19th (the second time) general meeting and inauguration ceremony of new committee cum members’ children incentive award. He said that in this new year, peers should introspect and look to the future. Accept past failures, face the future, seize opportunities and put in renewed efforts.
“On behalf of Hii King Chiong Service Centre and team members, I would like to thank all fellow hawkers for your cooperation and support. I hope to continue serving the community through more channels such as the political platform of which I need all your support and guidance.”
He urged hawker friends to change and upgrade themselves to meet greater challenges in their daily lives as a result of local development and improvement.
Hii hoped all will make a concerted effort to help the association adjust and adapt to policies imposed by the government.
He said that the implementation of Goods & Services Tax (GST) from 1 April 2015 onwards will pose a new challenge to hawkers. Peers must cope with the change calmly and smartly to overcome all difficulties and adjust to the higher living costs.
He suggested observing and learning the business ideas of hawkers in advanced countries, especially on how to enhance their income and overcome challenges.
Hii said hawkers treat customers like own family with affection and love and customers can therefore buy with peace of mind and eat healthy. The mutual trust between hawkers and consumers promote a harmonious and healthy society.
“Miri is a shopping and food paradise. Coupled with passion and friendliness of hawkers, Miri has all the necessary conditions to change for the better to create a better business and living environment for fellow hawkers.”
He was deeply grateful to Miri United Hawkers Association for showing great concern towards education of members’ children. He was aware that the association nurtured many outstanding talents who pursued higher education and contributed towards society and country.
Hii urged the committee to constantly monitor the country’s political and economic development, continue to look after the welfare of association and members, strengthen unity and cooperation, promote Miri food and shopping industries and enhance branding and image to attract more tourists.
