Street Food Festival 2012
29.12.12. - “Dearest friends, tonight let us put aside about calories , let’s eat as much as we can, tomorrow we start our diet and start to exercise”
Mr Hii King Chiong made a joke in his opening speech during the official launching of the Street Food Festival last night at Pasar Malam Saberkas.
Last night festival was the fourth of its kind ever held in Miri and was officiated by the Assistant Minister of Communication and Sports, Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
It was jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Miri City Council (MCC),Miri United Hawkers Association (MUHA)and Pasar Malam Saberkas Hawkers Committee whereas Mr Hii was the main sponsor of the event.
The Street Food Festival was aimed to promote the local traditional and exotic foods.
Beside it will also be an attraction to both local and foreign tourists. This yearly event which had recorded an overwhelming turnout was also aimed to boost the income of the Pasar Malam hawkers.
In further elaborating his keynotes address, Mr Hii said, “Miri has almost 23 ethnic groups and this give us an opportunity to have a variety of choice. These varieties of traditional and local exotic foods served by the ethnic, I name it 1Malaysia food.
Here the Malays, Chinese, Iban, Melanau, Bidayuh and the Orang Ulu meets, enjoy and they can have their favorite foods”, he said before ending up his speech in Mandarin.
During the event, Mr Hii was also Malaysian Hawkers Association Advisor later handed out cash donation to various organizations and Rumah Kebajikan Anak ~ Anak Yatim Hamidah in Permyjaya was one of the recipient.
He then lead the invited guest for a short walked ~ about and was given a warm greetings from hawkers and the general public patronizing the popular Pasar Malam spot.
Other invited guests were Malaysian‘s Head of Street Food Festival Programs Mr Yep Wok Fong, Malaysian United Hawkers Association & Petty Traders chairman Mr JP Lee Teong Chwee, Miri Mayor Cr Lawrence Lai Yew Son, Chairmen of MUHA and PMSHA Mr Kho Lam Seng and Mr Adnan Mohd Yusof, respectively, Ministry of Tourism officers, MCC councilors and members of the public who came as early 6pm to witness the special event.
In order to make the event in the program list, the invited guests and the general were later served with delicious local delights.
