Hii King Chiong : Echoing Call By The Chief Minister, Institutionalise Fund Allocations To Chinese Schools
14.11.2014--“The Chief Minister of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem recently announced the funding of Chinese schools, which is very encouraging to all. I hope that the government will institutionalise allocation of funds for the development of Chinese schools”, said the Honorary Life Chairman of the Board of Pei Min Middle School Miri, Dato Hii King Chiong on the school’s graduation ceremony.
Hii said that Pei Min Middle School Miri is one of the top Chinese schools in Malaysia. Batch after batch of outstanding youths were produced under careful nurturing of the teachers and parents over the years.
He was very pleased with the concerted efforts of the school board, staff and students in sailing through the hard times and overcoming all kinds of difficulties as well as diligently raising funds and strengthening unity to ensure sustainable development of Chinese school education.
Pei Min Middle School has a good education policy which preserves unique cultural heritage. It attracts the enrolment of a large number of students every year and is one of the best local schools to offer trilingual education.
Hii pointed out that Pei Min is similar to the other 60 middle schools nationwide where they put in a lot of effort and contribution to defend and sustain their cultural heritage.
“Chinese educationist Mr. Lim Lian Geok once said ‘One’s culture is the soul of one’s ethnicity’. The effort by Pei Min to fight for equality in education, run the school well and uphold Chinese education is to defend the soul of Malaysian Chinese.”
He said while there is government funding, we should also unite and work harder in running the school well and endeavour to include Chinese education into the national mainstream education in order to promote consensus and understanding among the people.
“Dear students, graduation is another new beginning. Although all of you feel reluctant to part, this glorious gathering before parting leaves behind beautiful and precious memories.”
Hii reminded all students to be grateful to the teachers and the school. “Whether you seek higher education or work in society, you must keep up the right attitude and positive thinking to ensure success. Let us be confident, be motivated, be helpful, respect work and enjoy.
He wished all the graduates a smooth and bright future, and peace and joy always.
