Sarawak Government Pensioners Association’s Office In Poor Condition For 14 Years Finally Gets Assistance For Repair

31.05.2015--Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) Miri branch had repeatedly sought assistance from minister and elected representatives in the application of fund to repair the association’s office but to no avail. Association branch chairman Dennin Fredericks turned to community service centre Majulah Miri leader Dato Hii King Chiong for help. Hii immediately promised to help solve the problem which they faced for some 14 years.

Dennin told the media that 7 months ago when he became association branch chairman, he pledged to improve the poor condition of their premise.

He revealed that due to failure in getting assistance, the association’s office at Piasau Camp had been in poor condition for some 14 years. There were interruptions of water and electrical services, break-ins by thieves and serious damage caused by termites to cabinets in 3 rooms.

He said that he was upset with the poor condition and started seeking financial assistance from various parties to fund the repair works since he became chairman 7 months ago.

“I wonder if the association is neglected because the number of members is only 400 people instead of 1,000 people. We are all very disappointed in not getting any kind of assistance.”

He pointed out that when he explained to Hii about the problem, Hii immediately promised to help and repair works would commence as soon as possible.

Dennin said that he and the exco-committee were very grateful for Hii’s generosity because his assistance would finally solve the problem that had plagued the association for 14 years.

He said that the repair works would be completed in time for Hari Raya and they plan to use the premise to hold Hari Raya open house and thanksgiving feast to thank Hii for his support and assistance.

In addition, he also said that the association set a target of achieving 1,000 members where each existing member would recruit a new member to expand the size of the association.
